COFFEE INFO

This blend is a sincere reflection of our desire to recognize and celebrate the work of our partners around the world. For this blend we’ve selected two direct relationship coffees we believe best represent what Utopian hopes to accomplish each time we source a coffee. Profits from this blend will be directed back to the communities in Nicaragua that produced the coffee and whose livelihoods were put in jeopardy through the pandemic. By partnering with Fabretto Farms, Utopian Coffee is helping give new opportunities to coffee farmers who’ve been unable to engage with the specialty coffee market.

We’re so proud to celebrate 15 years of going the extra mile and doing more than is expected of us and partnering with coffee farmers around the world. We believe our journey is only beginning, and each one of us at Utopian is excited to have you along for the ride.

PARTNERSHIP

Over the last 15 years, Utopian Coffee has strove to be different from the ordinary coffee roaster. It’s easy to remain unaware and unengaged in this industry. The luxury of modern coffee sourcing allows for roasters to keep farmers at arms length while benefiting from their hard work.

Time and time again Utopian has gone deeper, moved closer, and engaged with the entirety of coffee from start to finish. Even when it’s been uncomfortable or downright dangerous we’ve decided that it’s always more worthwhile to connect directly with the farmers that’ve created the coffees we’ve so thoroughly enjoyed. It’s never been about outward appearances or virtue signaling. Frail words break under the slightest scrutiny and anyone can fake looks.

At Utopian it’s about the conversations that are held over dinner tables in sweltering heat, or the handshakes taking place overlooking fields of coffee trees. For us, it’s about people, not profits, and never about image. You don’t travel to the most dangerous areas of Colombia, or to the most remote regions of Ethiopia just to look “cool.” You do it because there are people that inhabit those places that we call friends whose hard work deserves recognition and celebration.

Utopian Coffee was founded by current Chief Impact Officer, Brendon Maxwell, and his late cousin, Patrick Smith (pictured to the left). They launched the company in Patrick’s basement in southeast Fort Wayne in 2006.
