Andres Fernandez is one of the foremost producers of specialty coffee in Honduras. He has long produced outstanding quality coffees, and we were excited (and lucky) to have snagged a couple of bags of his legendary honey Parainema lot.
Andres’ father purchased land for a coffee farm in 1967, and by the age of 15 Andres’ had already begun overseeing his own plot of coffee trees on the property. In 1970 he married his wife, Mirna Judith Lopez, and asked his father for some of the property so he could begin his own coffee farm.
In 2008 Andres heard about one of his neighbors participating in the Cup of Excellence competition, which takes place annually to highlight the best coffee producer in Honduras (as well as many other coffee producing nations). In 2009 several members of the San Vincente team helped Andres learn about producing specialty quality coffee, and he entered his micro lot in the Cup of Excellence competition and received 15th place. Following this amazing achievement, buyers from around the world began to specifically request coffee from Andres, helping his farm grow by leaps and bounds. Today, Andres continues to refine his practices, and now produces honey-fermented coffees, resulting in wild and complex flavor profiles.
