Established in 2011, Fabretto Farms is a commercial, for-profit wing of the larger non-profit Fabretto organization, which has worked to improve education and employment opportunities in rural Nicaragua for over 60 years. Fabretto Farms is focused on creating access to markets for farmers. Despite coffee cultivation providing nearly one-third of all rural employment, Nicaraguan coffee farmers continue to have some of the lowest yields and profits in all of Latin America. For many coffee farmers, the barriers restricting their ability to sell coffee at profitable prices seem insurmountable. The story is the same in nearly every coffee-producing nation: a lack of initial knowledge and resources paired with the remoteness of farms and an inability to access global markets keeps coffee farmers from finding outlets for their coffee and pathways to improved standards of living.
Fabretto is addressing these challenges head-on, creating sustainable partnerships with coffee farmers and providing the initial funds, education, and resources needed to create competitive high-quality coffee. Additionally, the organization has created infrastructure to directly handle the most difficult steps of coffee production such as agronomy, transportation, milling, and sales.
We started talking with Fabretto over five years ago and are thrilled to finally be sharing a coffee sourced through the partnership. We’re inspired by Fabretto’s foundation of relationships — trust with farmers built through committed work to improve rural communities and collaboration with international contacts to find new homes for the incredible coffees being produced in Nicaragua. We’re proud to feature this coffee as a single-origin option and also paired with our Ethiopian partner Ture Waji’s magical natural coffee in Anniversary Blend. We’ll be donating $1 from every bag of Anniversary Blend sold directly to Fabretto Farms.
