Papua New Guinea – Sigri Estate Peaberry

$20

Sorting coffee by color, size, weight, and cultivar are all factors which play into creating a outstanding quality coffee. Southeast Asia is not historically known for producing this sort of coffee, and a lot of this is due to an overall lack of education regarding these basic practices. Typically, coffees from these regions are musty, woody, and just unpleasant.

Vikram Patel and his team at Benchmark Coffee Traders are breaking these stereotypes by introducing intensive and methodical processing methods to create a coffee profile similar to the best coffee growing regions in the world. Dubbed the Kula process, beans are color sorted twice and sorted twice to remove any defective beans. The result is a cup that makes you think twice about judging a coffee by its origin.

In addition to overall quality increases, Vikram and his team have also guaranteed education and healthcare services to all those who work for the estate, a luxury in a massively underdeveloped nation. Utopian is proud to partner with Benchmark Coffee Traders to present this phenomenal coffee from the Sigri Estate.

In the cup, expect a thick mouthfeel with tones of fudge, molasses, and dates highlighted by a distinctly citrus-forward acidity. This coffee is bound to impress aficionados and amaze classic-coffee drinkers.
