What You’ll Need:
- French Press Brewer (we recommend a 25-oz French Press )
- 60 grams of coffee beans (freshly ground)
- 800 grams (ml) of water at 204°F
- Scale
- Timer if not installed on scale
- Grinder: Coarse setting
- Kettle with a slow-pouring spout
- Spoon
- Cup for serving
Brew Ratio:
For a standard 1/13.3 brewing ratio: use 60 grams of coffee and 800 grams of water. If your French Press is smaller, simply divide your desired water volume by 13.3 to find the right coffee dose.
---
Step 1: Set Up
1. Place your French Press on the scale.
2. Prepare your timer.
3. Heat your water to 204°F.
---
---
Step 2: Grind & Dose
1. Measure out 60 grams of coffee beans.
2. Set your grinder to a coarse setting (if using a Malkonig Guatemala grinder, aim for #18-19).
3. Grind the beans right before brewing to ensure maximum freshness.
4. Pour the ground coffee into your French Press, and gently shake it to level the grounds.
5. Zero out your scale with the coffee and French Press on it.

---
Step 3: Pre-Infusion
1. Start your timer.
2. Pour 130 grams of water over the coffee grounds (enough to saturate them), making sure to pour slowly and evenly.
3. Swirl the French Press gently for 45 seconds to release the gases trapped in the coffee grounds.
---
---
Step 4: Fill and Brew
1. After 45 seconds, continue pouring water until the scale reads 800 grams.
2. Place the plunger on top but don’t press down yet. Ensure the coffee grounds are submerged just below the surface of the water.
3. Let the coffee steep.
---
---
Step 5: Plunge & Serve
1. At 4:15, slowly press the plunger down until it reaches the bottom for a total brew time of 4:30.
2. Pour your freshly brewed coffee into your cup and enjoy!
