Our Story

Founded in 2006 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Utopian Coffee was built on a simple but profound mission: to produce outstanding coffee while driving social and environmental impact. Over the years, we have grown from a small roastery into an influential player in the specialty coffee industry. Every decision we make reflects our commitment to sustainability, quality, and improving the lives of everyone involved in the coffee journey—from the farmers to our customers.

Regenerative Practices at the Heart of Our Mission

Sustainability has always been a core value at Utopian Coffee. We are proud to be pioneers in promoting regenerative farming practices, an approach that goes beyond sustainability to actively restore the environment. In 2023, we achieved Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC®) status for two of our most popular blends—making us one of the first roasters in the Midwest to offer Regenerative Organic Certified® coffee.

Our dedication to regenerative agriculture is about more than certification. We work directly with farmers across the globe, including partners in regions like Oaxaca, Mexico, and Ethiopia, to help them implement sustainable practices that not only produce higher-quality coffee but also contribute to the long-term health of the soil and the communities that depend on it.

Forging Strong Producer Relationships

At Utopian Coffee, we believe that producing great coffee starts with building strong, ethical relationships with our producers. Our co-founder, Brendon, has visited over 16 coffee-producing countries, forging connections that allow us to understand the challenges our partners face and support them in their efforts to improve their farming practices.

One of our key partnerships is with Finca Churupampa in Peru, a farm that is leading the way in regenerative coffee production. Our work with Finca Churupampa and other producers enables us to create a positive impact at the source, ensuring that our values of sustainability and quality are reflected in every cup of coffee we produce.
